"If you win one, single vote because you mentioned someone’s hometown—if some guy out there is like, ‘well, I don’t really know who I’m voting for, but Mitt told this story about Appleton, so…’—then you have every reason to feel dirty about that vote."

Mark Byrne of Gentlemen Quarterly

Mitt Romney continuously name-drops about the people he “met in Appleton, Wisconsin,” and that is making some local residents irritated. Mark Byrne explains why he thinks Mitt Romney keeps namechecking his hometown.

Thompson campaign scrambles after weekend gaffes

Former Wisconsin governor and U.S. Senate hopeful Tommy Thompson has been known for putting his foot in his mouth in the past. But this past weekend, he had some help from his son.

Jason Thompson, 38 was caught on camera at a Republican event calling for Obama to be sent “back to Chicago, or Kenya.”

Tommy Thompson also had his own verbal flounder over the weekend, calling his opponent, Rep. Tammy Baldwin, “anti-Jewish.”

The Thompson campaign later apologized and clarified for these missteps. Read more from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Allison Kruschke, junior at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., on what issues in this election are most important to her:
“I’ve narrowed it down to two major issues. The first being healthcare because it is so far-reaching. It affects many different kinds of people, from young people on their parents’ insurance to elderly people benefiting from Medicare. We’re on the cusp of very big changes in that area right now. The second most important issue to me this election is marriage equality. The president coming out in favor of it was a very big step forward. Clearly there were political motivations behind that announcement, but that doesn’t change how historic it was or how much it means to people.”

“The most important issue for me this election is very easily the size of the national debt. With the credit rating drop for the first time in history and with the debt at record heights, we’re endangering our future.”
